What the heck's the Watusi?? |
This is the question that's been on my mind since last Friday night's
Michael Reno Harrell show. Mr. Harrell sang about everything from fresh
vegetables to rednecks with baseball bats to dancin' the Watusi out
on the front lawn with his wife. Doesn't that sound wonderful? I found
this gem of an image on sixtiecity.com but as far as finding a real
live person who can dance it...hasn't happened. My research began at
the Nu Way immediately after the Michael Reno Harrell show. Spartanburg's
Antibodies were tearin' it up over there and people were dancing like
crazy. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure none of them were doing the Watusi.
If they were, Nicholas surely captured it on his tini spy camera and
I'll be able to figure it out once he gets the film developed. At this
point though, that camera is my only hope. So...to all my loyal readers
out there...if you can dance the Watusi...please, please, PLEASE help
me out. I will be forever indebted...
Aside from live music on Friday
night, we've been rather busy as usual. We had a good time with Howie
(Alex Howie), Arielle's old roommate and best bud from NYC who was down
for the weekend. Derya headed up to NYC to debut "Sparkle City"
at her cousins wedding and returned with delicious New York bagels.
She's also been planning the first "Potluck and Fun" which
will be on Saturday night (the 18th) here at the Showroom. Now; for
those of you who are thinking of coming to this event; there are a few
prerequisits. You must: a) like to eat b) like to hang out with cool
people c) like to have fun. If those apply to you then come on down!
Nicholas has been busy designing t-shirts for us, painting, taking photographs
with a tini camera, and baking bread. Rachel's folks were in town from
Michigan. They had a lovely weekend at a wedding in Blowing Rock. She's
been very busy with Hub City interviews and getting geared up for her
presentation on "The Secret Life of Bees" which will be at
Spartan High on the 24th. Man-o-man. What a week. Other little things...organizing
the warehouse for the (good) junk sale, cleaning up around the building,
hanging flyers, making art, making friends, l-i-v-i-n.
