Its been an exciting week here at Hub-Bub. Our four new artists arrived
last week and the first order of business was moving them in to their
new apartments. Since each artist brought only the art, art supplies,
clothes, record collections, camping gear, and workout equipment that
they could cram into their cars, it meant that moving them in was a
breeze. It also means that furniture is sparse 'round here. Fortunately
everyone has a bed (although I'm told that Nicholas is sometimes sleeping
on the floor). Finding tables and chairs for these guys is on the "do"
list for sure...
Last week was spent mainly
getting the artists settled in Spartanburg. They took numerous trips
to the DMV, the post office, the Salvation Army, grocery stores, hardware
stores, fabric shops, etc. They've hit a bunch of local coffee shops,
found a few choice watering holes and enjoyed some really good dinners
together. One of the highlights (for me at least) was the veggie potluck
dinner here at the Showroom on Sunday June 3rd. This event
takes place monthly and if you've never been you should try to stop
by on Sunday July 1st for the next one (everybody's gotta eat). The
artists each brought impressive dishes (homemade guacamole, bruschetta,
corn salad, etc.) which made an already nice spread even nicer (there
was everything from faux salmon to a vegetarian Indian dish to brownies...mmmm).
I provided a bag of pita chips and a container of store-bought hummus...I
promise to do better next time. On Sunday the 9th we attended
another really nice dinner at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium. It
was a benefit hosted by the Olive Garden on the night before the ascent
of Mt. Mitchell. Artists need to carbo-load too you know. Especially
with all the projects they're working on.
These guys have some great
ideas and it's going to be an exciting year. Right now they're focused
on getting ready for their Entrance Show which will take place at the
Showroom on June 26th from 7-9pm. You can visit their profiles
and blogs to learn more about them and what they're up to. I'll keep
you posted each week too so stay tuned...
Thanks and hope to see you
around.
