These two are not actually in an actual dining room. Nor are they actresses
acting in the play The Dining Room. This is merely a photo taken
after the opening of their show at the Day School. Thanks Davies for
pulling this thing together. The AIRs have spent a lot of time in local
schools this week. Aside from the opening in the Dent Center, they have
visited Smartanburg Methodist College, Spartanburg Community College
and Converse to look at art for the upcoming Collegiate Art Exhibition
that will open in The Showroom on February 16th. Wofford and USC Upstate
visits are being made this week as well. Hope ya'll can make it to that
opening on February 16th...
The AIRs are all working really
hard these days. I just spent the last hour filming these guys in their
studios for video for the new and improved HUB-BUB website...coming
soon. It gave me an opportunity to get an in-depth look at their new
work and the different directions they're going. Great stuff! Arielle
has finished the 44th of 50 glass paintings. They are really beautiful
small pieces that reflect surrounding landscapes and her experience
in this place. The time Derya served in art jail over break has served
her well. She has an array of organic sculptural peices that will be
used for installations and outfits. Very fitting. It is still impossible
to walk through Nicholas' studio as his new and old work is covering
just about every square inch. He's got some really nice layered pieces
with animal, flower and seed images. Rachel has spent a great deal of
time devoted to narrative works and poetry about everyday objects. Her
work for the book with the HCWP book charges forward. So does her work
with Poetry Outloud. On top of helping HUB-BUB with lots and lots of
things...these guys are rock stars. Good job AIRs.
Until next time...
