The past week has been focused
on getting ready for the artists' Entrance Show which was on Tuesday
the 26th. It was fantastic. Preparation highlights included:
transforming part of the gallery into a bedroom suite, baking "The
Spader Cake", finishing "The No Friends Club Part 1",
writing last minute bios and artist statements, sewing chapbooks, acquiring
mannequins, shaving beards, designing handouts, and listening to bad
90's hip-hop for inspiration (just to name a few)...
The show itsef was amazing.
The gallery looked great and tons of people stopped by. Rachel's reading
was captivating and offered a whole new perspective on fire ants in
Texas. There really are a lot of questions about those little suckers.
Who'd a thunk it? The Showroom was crammed full until about 10 or so.
When the crowd died down, Derya ceremoniously cut "The Spader Cake"
after thanking all of her pals who couldn't make it here. It was a bittersweet
moment as making the "The Spader Cake" was on her list of
things she hoped to accomplish in her lifetime. Well done Derya. The
ear was delicious. The few remaining stragglers soon headed off to the
Nu Way. We had an intense photo shoot/Charlie Brown's Christmas Dance
Party to the Pretty in Pink Soundtrack in the Showroom ouselves before
heading out for a PBR nightcap at our favorite watering hole.
All in all...a very good night.
The AIR's are taking it easy
for a few days. Come by this weekend and hang out with us. Sequoyah
Prep School on Friday night and the Dixie Hummingbirds on Saturday will
be a real treat. See you there...
