The 2008/09 AIRs have been in Spartanburg for a few weeks now and things are going great!  Last week was a busy week with everybody on the official Hub-Bub schedule.  That means meetings, cleaning up the gallery, bartending and making art.  Life at Hub-Bub has begun.  Last Wednesday they each gave a stellar presentation to a group of high school students who were at Converse for Andrew Blanchard's art camp and Sam Howie's writing camp.  I know it was a lot of pressure to hop up on stage but it was great for all of us to hear them talk about their art and writing and why they do the things they do.  The AIRs took over the office on Friday so staff could take the day off.  It was my big 3-0 so while I spent my day eating cake and working on my tan, the AIRs took control of things around here...hung pictures, painted walls, answered phones.  Friday night was the Shane Pruitt show and Saturday was just fun hangin' out.  Now it's Monday morning and it's all business...11 days and counting to the Entry Show...

    The week ahead will be a full one.  The Boys and Girls Club are building puppets with Beth Nixon (Wofford's visting artist) for a puppet parade that will be in downtown Spartanburg on Friday.  We'll head over to Wofford tomorrow am to work with them.  Tomorrow afternoon we plan to build some raised veggie beds behind The Showroom.  Wanna help?  Come on over around 4.  Thanks Neely's lumber for the planks.  Thursday is a tour of the Chapman Cultural Center before some more culture at Music on Main.  Friday we've got kids from the COLORS program coming by for a quick studio tour in the am.  Hot Club of Cowtown on Friday night.  These guys are from Texas so we'll have our 2 Texas natives (Patrick and Jonas) slingin' beers.   It's Sarah Witt's big 26th on Saturday...there are lots of gemini in the Hub-Bub building this year.  She'll be out at the Music Camp for the Belleville Outfit.
