Over 20 local artisans will be selling their wares during the downtown event taking place in the Grain District. ART NOW! is a four-week lecture series and discussion on the state of art in the twenty first century. Each week join Hub-Bub Artist in Residence Ron Longsdorf and guest panelists for a thematic lecture and panel discussion. Free and open to the public. For decades artists have used the body as part of a contemporary art practice. Artists have used bodies as paintbrushes, signed figures as live sculptures, and altered the body into a new persona for photography or film. This session will investigate how artists and others a like use the body as a medium, ranging from performance, dance, yoga, and the physical stacking of human bodies as art. |

For years in history as technology develops it changed how we make and do things, even in art. From the invention of the printing press to the computer, the Internet, and digital photography artists have used new and emerging technologies as an art practice. This session will cover how technology impacts arts and culture with topics such as robotics, laser/water jet cutting, CNC routers, digital photography, scanners, video, the internet and all forms of new media. |

In the past several decades, artists have moved away from the static object and permanence of physicality using various time based mediums and short-lived ephemeral methods of making. Artists have utilized video, audio, kinetic sculptures, performances, happenings, sand drawings, water drawings, and natural materials to create a fleeting moment of experience. In this session we will discuss what it means to abandon the object for the beauty of the ephemeral. |
