What the Heck This is the question that's been on my mind since last Friday night's Michael Reno Harrell show.  Mr. Harrell sang about everything from fresh vegetables to rednecks with baseball bats to dancin' the Watusi out on the front lawn with his wife.  Doesn't that sound wonderful?  I found this gem of an image on sixtiecity.com but as far as finding a real live person who can dance it...hasn't happened.  My research began at the Nu Way immediately after the Michael Reno Harrell show.  Spartanburg's Antibodies were tearin' it up over there and people were dancing like crazy.  Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure none of them were doing the Watusi.  If they were, Nicholas surely captured it on his tini spy camera and I'll be able to figure it out once he gets the film developed.  At this point though, that camera is my only hope.  So...to all my loyal readers out there...if you can dance the Watusi...please, please, PLEASE help me out.  I will be forever indebted...

Camera 1, Camera 2 8August2007 You've seen them on our website, read about them on their blogs and in the Herald Journal and seen their studios in The Link.  If you read my weekly update (which clearly you do), you've gotten an in-depth and insightful summary of their life in Sparkle City every seventh day for the past 2 months.  Maybe you've even been by the Showroom and met them.  And soon...you'll be able to see them on the big screen.  (Depending on what size television you have that is).  It was an exciting Monday morning over here when Spartanburg's City Channel film crew rolled in and set up their cameras.  Look for the AIRs to air sometime in late August.  You won't even have to Tivo it...apparently it runs about five times daily...

My Camera and My Mother are in Jackson 1August2007 So...I'm posting an older photo from Hub-Bub's flickr account titled "Derya, Arielle and Nicholas work out a crossword puzzle".  Im posting it because a) my mother took my camera with her to Jackson Hole so I am temporarily unable to take photos and b) it is a really wonderful picture that illustrates just how focused these guys can be and how well they work together.  I have not yet asked them exactly how it happened but if I were to guess they probably started the crossword puzzle the night before this photo was taken while sitting on Derya's couch after eating vegetarian curry and watching a movie with the word "Girl" in the title.  Disctracted by the sound of cicadas and passing trains, they decided to finish the puzzle at a later time.  Nicholas was charged with holding onto the puzzle until they could all work on it together again.  He carried it in his pocket the entire next day before presenting it (slightly crumbled) to the other AIRs to finish up between sets of Old School Freight Train.  Rachel is missing from the photo but only because she has run upstairs to check the spelling of a really really big word while Derya, Arielle and Nicholas keep a steady eye on the page so that it doesn't go anywhere.  Im pretty sure they finished that puzzle and got every letter right!

Our AiRs Get Around 25July2007 Spartanburg has many wonderful features.  For example...we have the Cottonwood Trail, the Hub City Farmer's Market, Beacon Tea, delicious Indian food, an assortment of restaurants that specialize in hot dogs (even veggie ones), a new bike trail, billboards of cartoon beets, AND the ability to get out of town pretty easily.  The AIRs learned all about that last week when they travelled down to Charleston for some beach time before coming back to Spartanburg for some live music at the Showroom over the weekend and then heading up to Asheville for an arts festival and then back to the Burg in time to hang the show that opens TONIGHT (Wednesday the 25th).  Now Arielle has left for a bris just outside of DC and Rachel has gone to The Smokeys.  Like I said...these guys get around.  Whew.  What a week...
