Thanks to Arielle for taking the bull by the horns and getting the HUB-BUB College Street Team movin'. She had 10 or so students in here on Monday night for a pizza party information sesh. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera to document the event but I found this image to give you an idea of how much fun they had. Arielle will be hosting another pizza party Street Team session this Thursday night. Get in touch with her if you're interested. We've actually got a lot going on at HUB-BUB for college students right now. The AIRs are curating a Collegiate Art Exhibition that will open in mid-February and present works representing each local college. On Tuesday; Arielle, Derya and Nicholas all headed out to Spartanburg Methodist to look at work by three talented young artists who may be represented in that show. They'll head to SCC, Converse, Wofford and USC Upstate next week. Stay tuned...
Its cold out there folks so I thought this picture of Derya running across the dunes and doing The Wave at the beach would warm everybody up. Actually...Derya is not really at the beach, nor is she doing The Wave. The AIRs hung their show at The Day School yesterday and this is merely a photomontage of the beach for her installation. I guess the chairs and carpeted wall kinda give it away. In other news...much going on here as usual. It was a big weekend at HUBBUB with The Everybodyfields on Friday night (they rocked) and The Art of the Street Exhibition (it too rocked). We had a big and diverse crowd for both events. The AIR program is in the final push to get the word out for the upcoming February 15 deadline for 2008-2009 artists-in-residence. If you know any young and talented artist or creative writer...send them our way...
Happy 2008 HubBubbers! We all had a nice long break for the holidays. It was great to sleep in, watch movies and eat junk food for a while but that can get kinda old so now it's good to be back in business over here! The Showroom calender is packed for the next few months. Hope you're planning to come out. The Everybodfields on Friday and the Art of the Street Show on Saturday should be killer. Check out the new mural on the side of the warehouse next time you drive by. The AIR program is in an exciting stage of the year as we're beginning to receive the first of what we expect to be many AIR 2008-2009 applications. The deadline is February 15th so if you know of any talented young artists who should apply, send 'em our way!
...is the only way! Thank you City of Spartanburg! Well, this week has been a doozy and we're only half way through! BYOA was a huge hit with over 40 artists selling their goods on Saturday night. The AIRs were among them selling "No Friends Club" books, limited edition Myrmecology chapbooks, original t-shirts and knitted goods. We had a big crowd and a lot of fun (I feel like I type that a lot). Anyway - we started cleaning up The Showroom after BYOA, worked on it a little more on Sunday and spent all day Monday getting ready for Bowl-O-Rama. By 7pm we had a gallery full of folks looking and bidding on 32 one-of-a-kind bowling ball masterpieces. Thanks to the 31 artists, 35+ sponsors, and the whole Hubculture community for making this night such a hit. Next up...Reindeer Monologues on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Just in time for a little holiday r-n-r.
