AiR Extraordinaire 21February2008 For most of the week, I've been sitting on the floor in my living room pounding coffee and listening to Eek-A-Mouse while sorting through AIR applications for the next round of residents.  Only taking occasional breaks to use the bathroom, feed the dog and adjust the ipod...I still have a long way to go.  I can't tell you exactly how many we have.  Last Friday, we had 37.  On Saturday, 20 more came in.  On Tuesday, I think we got another 30.  A few more trickled in yesterday.  We've got applications from all over the US...from Los Angelos to Greer.  And artists of all kinds...from illustrators to painters to food sculptors.  It's been a lot of fun to see and I've still got a ways to go.  Stay tuned...

Collegiate Art and Hub-Bub 13February2008 This big orange beauty is just one of three pieces by Kathy Wofford that will be exhibited in the upcoming Collegiate Art of Spartanburg Exhibition here at The Showroom on Saturday night.  Her three scultures were part of a kinetic art project and usually reside on Converse's campus.  With the help of the Converse maintenance crew, a golf cart, a trailer, some carpet squares and this humongous truck, we were able to get this puppy over to HUB-BUB in two hours flat...record time I presume!  The artists-in-residence have worked hard to co-curate this show.  Special thanks to Converse, SCC, SMC, USC Upstate and Wofford professors for soliciting art for the show.  And a special thanks to all the students who submitted work.  You won't want to miss work by over 20 student-artists this Saturday night at HUB-BUB.  We've got everything from photos and prints to ceramic elephants and gigantic orange sculptures!

The Not So Calm Before the Storm 6February2008 I came in bright and early this Wednesday morning  with the intention of writing the AIR weekly update first thing.  I like my routine and on most Wednesday mornings the AIR weekly update kicks my day off.  But here it is 3:30 and I'm pushing things aside to get this puppy out there.  It's been a crazy day and a crazy week and there's lots more craziness ahead.  The AIRs finished looking at Collegiate Art Exhibition entries on Friday.  That show goes up next week.  Despite the nasty weather, artists have been filing in today with their work for Arts with Heart (this Friday night at 7 in The Showroom) while the Art of the Street show has been coming down (and into the office as I type).  AIR applications are piling up on the desk behind me.  The deadline for those is next Friday.  Plans for MAKE DAY are well underway.  MAKE DAY is the HUB-BUB spring fundraiser...a day of public art making.  Shoot me an e-mail if you want to learn more...

The Dining Room 30January2008 These two are not actually in an actual dining room.  Nor are they actresses acting in the play The Dining Room.  This is merely a photo taken after the opening of their show at the Day School.  Thanks Davies for pulling this thing together.  The AIRs have spent a lot of time in local schools this week.  Aside from the opening in the Dent Center, they have visited Smartanburg Methodist College, Spartanburg Community College and Converse to look at art for the upcoming Collegiate Art Exhibition that will open in The Showroom on February 16th.  Wofford and USC Upstate visits are being made this week as well.  Hope ya'll can make it to that opening on February 16th...
